When I run the setup from the installation CD, I get an error that says, HP Officejet Pro c – printer – color – ink-jet caacs. I’ve worked on lots of them and typically all they need is ‘mechanical tune-up’. The color cartridge HP41A is printing correctly and no evidence of ink pooling is noted. If you get the printer back in operation remove the scanner glass and clean the underside and the mirror in the slot next to scanner lamp using a cotton swab.

After this procedure didn’t work, he said that was all he could do and that I would have to take it to a service facility – he recommended Radio Shack – and pay for repairs. I could’t get it back together. It’s no wonder, it would have been a simple fix for them to do and then resell it.

As I recall the scanner cover lifts off and the glass is held in place by four T20 Torx head screws. The printer is dead other than the little green lite now.
Tip HP is not going to tell you how to repair anything that involves opening your printer. There is one T10 Torx screw vixta the rear holding it in place. I had the same exact problem – HUGE build-up of old ink. Have tried 2 new HP cartridges purchased from different stores, so do not think it is the cartridge problem suggested above. The short answer is ‘no’. Not sure how to get into machine and what to tighten up when I do get in.
